Free-spell effects in red have historically demanded a matching build cost: Past in Flames re-buys everything but charges full retail per spell, while the cheaper cascade-style engines fire once and randomly. Here the trade is inverted. You pay four red pips up front, then cast two instants or sorceries with a combined value of six or less for nothing, and because it is an instant, the whole package can be held for an opponent's end step or slammed in response to a removal spell on the stack. That instant-speed window is the real design decision. It turns the card from a Storm-adjacent value burst into a genuine combat and counterplay tool: cast a burn spell and a copy effect, or a ritual and a payoff, at the exact moment the math tips your way. The self-exile clause on the recast spells and on Invoke Calamity itself is the discipline that keeps it from becoming a loop; each spell resolves once and leaves the game, so the ceiling is bounded by what two spells totaling six or less can actually accomplish rather than by an engine that refills itself. The intensity of the mana cost signals the design intent plainly: this is a devotion-heavy, mono-red-leaning finisher, not a splash, and the four colored symbols are the tax you pay for stapling two spells into one instant-speed resolution.
