Invert Polarity

Counterspell has always been binary: the spell resolves or it doesn't. This one refuses that clean answer and installs a coin in its place, turning the tidiest interaction in the game into a wager. Win the flip and you don't just stop the spell, you seize it outright with fresh targets, redirecting an opponent's removal, drinking their card draw, or aiming their burn back at them. Lose it and you've paid three mana for a plain counter, which is still a serviceable floor. That asymmetry is the whole point: the downside sits at roughly market rate for a counterspell, so the coin only ever stacks upside on top of a competent baseline. The design belongs to a small lineage of variance-as-mechanic red cards where the losing outcome is deliberately kept close to fair, precisely so the winning outcome can be pushed to absurd. And because theft resolves on the stack, before the spell ever hits the board, this isn't a Ricochet-style redirect that only bends a targeted spell somewhere else: you take ownership of a lethal removal spell or a game-ending combo piece and make it yours, targets and all. It is a card built for players who want the counter slot to occasionally do something no counter should be able to do, and who accept a coin flip as the toll for that ceiling.
