Immoral Bargain

Sorcery1 generic manaBlack manaGreen mana

The tension in sacrifice-cost removal has always been the exchange rate: how many of your own bodies does the spell cost, and can you turn that cost into an asset? Here the sacrifice is not a downside bolted onto a Bone Splinters effect but the resource meter itself. X is defined entirely by how many creatures you feed it, so this is Golgari's philosophy compressed into a single line: your creatures are already spent, so spend them again on the way out. The effect draws on the color pair's whole apparatus of expendable fodder (token generators, undying and persist bodies, creatures that trigger on their own death) and pays them off with permanent, targeted destruction that no color reliably gets on its own. Green almost never destroys nonland permanents; black destroys but rarely without restriction. Sacrificing two saprolings to blow up two problem permanents is a trade a mono-black removal spell cannot make and a green Naturalize cannot approach. The friction is that the trade only reads as favorable when the fodder is genuinely free; cast it with real creatures on the table and it is a brutal double-spend. That gap between the aristocrats build that treats every death as profit and the fair deck that has nothing to feed it is the whole strategic axis, and it is why the effect scales cleanly from a one-for-one panic button to a board-clearing haymaker without ever changing a word of its text.
