Icy Blast

A scalable Falter that hardens into a lock the instant your board tips big. Tapping X creatures at instant speed is a competent alpha-strike enabler on its own: pay enough and the blockers vanish for one attack step. Clear the four-power threshold, though, and the spell stops being a one-turn detour. The affected creatures skip their controllers' next untap step, which means the tap is no longer the point. Because ferocious keeps them from untapping, you can target creatures that are already tapped and simply strand them there through their next untap, turning a swing that resolved into a defensive turn where the opponent has no blockers back. That is the structural trick, and it reverses the card's usual weakness: an ordinary Falter is dead against a board that has already committed its attackers, but this one can freeze them mid-cycle. The threshold doubles as a rate check, since the ferocious bonus lives in exactly the aggressive, big-creature builds that can reliably switch it on, so the upside scales with the deck most likely to want it. The cost structure is the honest part: X buys breadth, but every creature you tap is mana you aren't committing to the board. It wants to be held for the swing where a table of frozen blockers converts straight into lethal, rather than fired as a reactive answer with the fattie still absent.
