Goblin Grenade

The math is the whole pitch: one red mana plus a body you were probably going to lose anyway, in exchange for five damage at a rate burn spells of its era could not touch. That conversion is the engine of every goblin aggro deck that ever wanted to close from across the table, because it turns the tribe's chief liability (small, fragile creatures that trade down) into a finisher. The additional sacrifice cost is what holds the rate honest: you cannot cast it from an empty board, and the spell pays out exactly what the fed Goblin is worth, so the deck has to commit to flooding the battlefield first and cashing in second. That tension (build wide, then convert the width into reach) separates a goblin deck that wins from one that stalls. The sorcery-speed restriction shapes how the conversion gets sequenced: you cannot hold it up as a combat trick or fire it in response to a removal spell, but you can attack with a surviving Goblin, let it connect for combat damage, and then sacrifice that same creature in your second main phase to finish a stranded opponent. The play happens on your own turn, on your own terms, never as a reactive blowout. Five damage from one mana has aged into something close to a tribal keyword unto itself, the reason goblins read as a burn-adjacent aggro identity rather than a pure creature swarm. Sacrifice fodder is rarely this celebrated; here the sacrifice is not a cost grudgingly paid but the entire point.
