Giant Growth
Three power and three toughness for one green mana is the rate that built green's combat-trick identity, and the numbers are the entire design. That bonus lets a 1/1 trade up two power brackets, turns a chump block into a kill, and saves a creature from most early-game damage-based removal. It is why green's tricks have always been about making small creatures suddenly large rather than about evasion or protection (white and blue's territory). Every variation on the template since has been in conversation with this baseline, each accepting a restriction or surcharge in exchange for adding a clause: Mutagenic Growth shifted the cost to life, Vines of Vastwood layered in hexproof, Blossoming Defense added protection at the same rate, Titanic Growth bumped the bonus to +4/+4 while raising the cost. The cleanness of the original (one green mana, instant speed, one line of text, three and three) is what keeps it the reference point. It is the card you use to teach a new player what a combat trick is, and the card every green deck designer measures their environment against, because whether a format can support this rate shapes how combat math works for everyone else at the table.
