Garruk's Harbinger
Hexproof from black is the pointed part of this design: a directional protection that reads as a metagame call rather than a keyword grab. It walls the card off from targeted black removal specifically (the Doom Blades, the point spells that need a target), while leaving it exposed to red burn, white exile, and green fight effects. That asymmetry is deliberate: the creature is built to punch through the color most likely to trade one-for-one with a 4/3, and the combat trigger is the payoff for connecting. Digging that many cards deep on a hit and pulling a creature or a Garruk planeswalker forward is a snowball clause: each swing that lands makes the next few turns richer, and the card rewards actually attacking rather than parking on defense. The tension is that the body invites the block (a 4/3 dies to most everything that isn't black) so the protection only pays off in the matchups it was tuned against; against a deck without black removal, hexproof from black is a dead keyword and you are holding a fragile beater with a good rider. It sits in the small class of creatures whose protection is written as a scalpel instead of a shield, and it is one of the more explicit examples of Wizards attaching directional hexproof to a specific color rather than granting the blanket version that warps combat math entirely.
