Ferrous Lake

Land

The design conversation is about where the cost lives. Untapped duals that produce two colors have always carried a rider to pay for the flexibility: a life payment, a shock, a reveal condition, or an enters-tapped delay. This one relocates the whole cost into the activation itself, and the accounting is subtler than it first looks. Spending one generic to get two colored back nets exactly one mana, the same rate as tapping a basic, so there is no tempo penalty on any turn where you already have the generic to feed it. What you are actually buying is a converter: it turns colorless or off-color mana into precise Izzet output, functioning less like a dual land and more like a smoothing engine that fixes on demand. That puts it in a different lineage than the punishing duals. It never touches your life total and never telegraphs anything to an opponent, closer in spirit to a filter land, though it primes with generic mana rather than demanding a colored mana to start the exchange. Its real limitation follows directly from that priming step: without another source already feeding it a generic mana, the land sits inert, so it wants a board that has mana on it before it earns its keep.
