Feed the Infection

Sorcery3 generic manaBlack mana

Black has always paid for cards in life: Sign in Blood, Read the Bones, Night's Whisper, a long line of trades where the draw is fixed and the toll is fixed and the transaction ends there. This one keeps that arithmetic honest, three cards for three life at four mana, then bolts a bounty onto the back. The Corrupted clause reads as a rider, but it changes what the card is: in a deck already stacking poison counters, drawing three refills the toxic threats while the same spell drains everyone past the threshold. The elegance is that the two halves point in one direction without needing to be built around separately. You are not choosing between card advantage and reach; the reach is a byproduct of the counters you were laying down anyway, and it hits each opponent, so a wide poison board turns a plain draw spell into a closing burst. Strip the Corrupted line and you have an overcosted refuel; the condition is doing the work of justifying the extra mana over the two-mana draw spells it descends from. It is a clean example of the era's design instinct to append a mechanic-gated bonus to a familiar effect rather than reprint the effect flat, and the poison payoff sits close enough to the base card that the same slot serves both the topdeck-refill role and the finish.
