The recursion clause rewrites the economics of the pump-and-protect spell. Ordinarily a cantripless combat trick or protective instant is a one-for-one that you cast and mourn; here every instant or sorcery that targets one of your own creatures comes back at the next end step, so a single Defiant Strike or Gods Willing becomes a rented resource rather than a spent card. That inversion is the whole engine: the deck built around this Angel wants a low curve of cheap targeted spells that are individually unremarkable and collectively relentless once they stop running out. The design cost is precise and easy to miss. The replacement only fires on spells that target a creature you control, so removal aimed at opponents, sweepers, and untargeted effects still hit the graveyard normally; the payoff is walled off to a specific kind of self-directed spell, and that narrow trigger is what stops the whole thing from collapsing into a generic value engine. The mechanism itself is a cast trigger: "Whenever you cast" sets up a replacement effect that only takes hold "as it resolves," and that seam is where the fragility bites. A protective spell aimed at her can be answered by killing her in response: the spell loses its last legal target, fizzles, and goes to the graveyard rather than returning to hand, because the exile never gets to fire on resolution. She is both the win condition and the linchpin the opponent most wants to remove at exactly the wrong moment, and the returns you are banking on evaporate with her.
