Every point of X buys two tokens on entry, one that fights and one that feeds, and that doubling is the whole design. A green-white token-maker that only stamped out X 1/1s would be a Verdeloth-style wide-board payoff and nothing else; folding a matching pile of Food into the same trigger turns the same mana investment into a stabilizing engine, seeding a board of bodies while banking a life-total buffer that cashes out three at a time on demand. The split axis is what gives the card its reach: the Halfling tokens want to attack, the Food wants to sit until you need it or until a sacrifice deck wants to eat it, so the card feeds anything that cares about creatures entering wide, life gained, or artifact fodder piling up. The small legendary body barely registers next to the payload, and the trigger rewards patience: hold it for a large X late rather than cashing it early for tempo. Note the tokens are themselves Halflings, so the card also anchors a tribe, matching creature types across the same swing that stocks the Food. It sits in the long green-white lineage of go-wide-plus-sustain designs, but most of those pick one lane; splitting the entry payload into an offensive half and a defensive half lets this one serve both without asking for a second card.
