Fabled Passage
The tapland fetch, refined. For years a nonbasic that fixed colors and thinned your deck came with a flat tempo tax: it always entered tapped, no exception, and that tax was heaviest early, when a turn spent off-curve costs you the most. This design keeps the early sting but attaches a threshold to it. Sacrifice it with three or fewer lands out and the fetched basic stays tapped, right when you can least afford the lost tempo. Sacrifice it with four or more already down and that land untaps on arrival, so the fetch reads as clean fixing with no drawback. The clever part is where the penalty lives: it front-loads onto the exact turns where you have the least, then vanishes once your development can absorb it. A conventional tapland never stops taxing you; it merely stops mattering as the game runs long. This one removes the tax entirely once you cross the threshold, which is what makes it feel less like a fixing land and more like a delayed basic. The basic-only clause is the leash: no shocklands, no triomes, no dual-typed value, just the honest colors your deck actually runs. That restriction is what lets the untap clause exist without warping formats where fetching anything at near-instant tempo would be too strong. Disciplined manabase engineering that solves the old tapland problem without simply erasing the cost.
