Enlightened Tutor
The instant-speed half of the Mirage tutor cycle, and the one whose targeting clause has aged into something far more powerful than the rate suggests. Searching only artifacts and enchantments looks like a narrowing restriction, but those two card types have absorbed an enormous share of the game's combo pieces, engines, and silver-bullet answers over the decades, so the constraint hardly bites at all. The real discipline is the cost it pays: this does not draw the card it finds, it puts it on top, charging you a full turn of tempo and a known draw step in exchange for a one-mana toolbox. That structure rewards a deck built around a small set of high-impact targets rather than raw card advantage, which is exactly why it lives in fast, dedicated shells rather than fair midrange. Instant speed is the other axis that matters: holding the white mana open lets you fetch a reactive enchantment or artifact in response to an opponent's threat, then untap into it, turning a proactive tutor into a held answer. The cycle's other members (Worldly Tutor for creatures, Mystical Tutor for instants and sorceries, the later additions for lands and elsewhere) all share the top-of-library tax, but none has watched its legal target pool expand as relentlessly as this one. Every artifact combo piece printed since 1996 is, in effect, a buff to a card that has not changed a word.
