Emerge Unscathed

InstantWhite mana

Protection is the most surgical defensive word in white's vocabulary, and rebound doubles the surgery. For a single white mana, this answers a removal spell, blanks a blocker, and pushes damage through, all at instant speed and all keyed off your color choice rather than a fixed target. The first cast is the obvious one: respond to a Doom Blade, name black, and the spell fizzles for want of a legal target. The second cast is the wrinkle that makes the card worth a slot. Rebound exiles the spell on resolution and hands it back, free, at the start of your next upkeep, which means a single card buys two protection effects across two turns: one reactive, one proactive. The cost is the timing it imposes. The reprise fires on upkeep, before you have read the board, so the free cast is a commitment you make a turn early rather than a held-up answer; you cast it then or you waste it. White has printed protection-granting tricks since the earliest days, but most spend themselves in one window. Folding rebound into the package turns a one-shot combat-and-removal hedge into a two-turn engine, the kind of value rebound was built to find in spells cheap enough that casting them twice still feels free.
