Disciple of Caelus Nin

Creature — Human Wizard4 generic manaWhite mana

Phasing spent most of its life as a self-resolving curiosity: a permanent flickered out on its owner's upkeep and came back on its untap step with no one's input required. This design weaponizes the half of the mechanic nobody had reason to think about, the automatic phase-in, and switches it off while the body sits on the battlefield. The enter trigger runs like a symmetrical vote (each player, you first, keeps up to five permanents) and everything else phases out, but the static line is what gives the vote teeth: with phasing suppressed, none of those permanents can come back for as long as this creature survives. That reframes what looks like a generous group hug into a lock closer in spirit to Tragic Arrogance or Cataclysm, a mass board reduction where the caster sequences first, knows exactly which five pieces to protect, and has built to survive the cut. The asymmetry is doing real work even though the numbers sound fair. Lands are permanents too, so this is as much a resource-denial button as a creature sweeper, freezing the majority of every battlefield in stasis. The catch, and the reason the effect is a soft lock rather than a hard one, is that it lives and dies with the creature: kill or bounce Disciple of Caelus Nin and every phased-out permanent floods back in on its owner's next untap step.
