Cleave rewrites it entirely. Pay the and both bracketed clauses drop away: "[basic land]" vanishes, so the search stops caring about lands and becomes an unconditional tutor for anything in your library; "[reveal it,]" vanishes, so the pull stays hidden. Losing the land restriction is the reach that matters, converting a fixing spell into an open tutor that can fetch a combo piece or a precise answer; losing the reveal keeps the grab concealed, so the opponent never learns what left the deck. Both upgrades sit behind a black splash, and that gating carries the whole design. Green has never been trusted with open-ended tutoring on its own; the powerful mode borrows the color that has always owned unconditional search, walling it behind four total mana and a double-black demand while the one-mana half stays narrow and honest. Cleave folds two spells at opposite ends of a curve into a single card, the cheap fixer and the expensive silver bullet, with the color pie itself deciding which one a given deck can actually reach.
