Deploy to the Front

The counting clause reads the entire battlefield and pays out on one side. It tallies everything (your tokens, your opponents' tokens, animated lands, manlands, anything that meets the definition of a creature) and hands the total to you as 1/1 Soldiers. That inverts the usual go-wide arithmetic. Most token finishers reward the player who already built the widest board; this one taxes the whole table and gives the sum to the caster. The more your rivals have committed, the better your turn gets, which makes it a comeback button rather than a coronation: fire it into three opponents who have each spent six turns assembling armies and the count routinely clears twenty, all of it yours. A token doubler like Anointed Procession or Doubling Season turns the figure obscene; Craterhoof Behemoth or an overrun effect converts the new mob into a single lethal swing. The seven-mana price is the gate that keeps the swing from arriving too early: it buys a turn late enough that there is a board worth counting, and the spell exists to weaponize a state of affairs you did not have to build alone. The exposure lives on the stack, though. X is locked in on resolution, so an instant-speed wrath answered while the spell is still on the stack leaves nothing to count and the whole payment evaporates. The real threat is the opponent holding a board wipe at instant speed, not the one who wraths a turn too early.
