Damping Sphere

Two hosers welded into one chassis, each aimed at a different engine and neither overlapping. The first clause is a land-tax that flattens any land producing two or more mana down to a single colorless, the answer to the ramp lands and dual-tapping tricks that turn one land into a fistful of mana; note that it says land, not permanent, so the artifacts that gush colorless are untouched by it. The second clause taxes iterative casting: each spell after the first costs more, so a turn that wants to chain ten cheap spells instead pays an escalating fee that outpaces what the engine can refund. The elegance is that the two clauses punish threats that almost never share a deck, so the card reads as dead against one strategy and crippling against the other without ever being a pure liability against a broad field. Most answers to combustible engines are surgical: they name a card type, a permanent, a keyword. This one names two behaviors (tapping a land for too much, casting too often) rather than a card, which is why it stays relevant while the specific engines it punishes rotate through and out of legality. The generic cost is the load-bearing concession; a hoser this wide has to be castable in any color, and pricing it at colorless is what keeps it a universal answer rather than one gated behind a shard.
