Most Equipment offers a flat static bonus; this one wires its buff directly to the size of your board, scaling with every creature you control. That makes it a payoff for going wide rather than a beater's crutch. But the design's real move is the monarchy hook. Equipment that generates its own card advantage is scarce, and here the trigger arrives passively: a legendary creature entering an unclaimed throne installs you as monarch, opening the extra-draw faucet and daring the table to break through your growing wall to reclaim it. That second axis feeds the first. Because the equip cost drops sharply for the monarch, the card rewards a build that treats kingship as a defended resource, playing your legends into the empty seat early and leaning on the discount to keep the anthem cheap to redeploy. Read the "if there is no monarch" clause carefully, though: it is a one-time grab, not a recurring steal. Once anyone becomes monarch, further legends entering do nothing to reclaim the title, so the crown is a race to seat yourself first, after which you defend the seat by combat and politics rather than by triggering it again. It is an unusual bundle of jobs for one artifact: a scaling combat buff, a card-advantage engine, and a soft political lever, each quietly discounting the others. The flavor lands too, tying kingship, the monarch subgame, and a growing host of defenders into a single object worth guarding.
