Creeping Mold

Three of the most common noncreature permanent types fall under one targeting clause here: artifact, enchantment, or land, with the choice deferred until the spell hits the stack. The trade is rate. Mono-purpose answers cost less and aim narrower; Naturalize covers the artifact-or-enchantment half at two mana, and dedicated land destruction often comes cheaper still. What the extra mana buys is the comfort of never holding a dead card. The spell requires a target, so you commit to a problem when you cast it, but the card is live against a Cranial Plating, an oppressive enchantment, or a key piece of fixing without the deckbuilder having to guess in advance which of those will show up. That breadth is the whole design: green has always had deep, cheap utility removal for noncreature permanents, but it tends to be partitioned by type, forcing the deckbuilder to allocate slots to each problem before knowing which one appears. Folding three permanent types into one targeting clause is the flexible version of that answer, paid up front in mana rather than committed during deckbuilding. The catalog of broad green answers that followed (Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, Beast Within, Decimate) all work from this template: ask green for less precision and more coverage, then charge a premium for the privilege of not having to predict the threat.
