Chaos Defiler

Artifact Creature — Demon Construct3 generic manaBlack manaRed mana

The trick to reading this Battle Cannon is that the randomness only bites you when there is more than one thing to choose from. You name one nonland permanent per opponent, and the game destroys one from that set at random: against a single opponent, that pool is one card wide, so the destruction is guaranteed and the effect is a clean, chosen kill. The dice only come out once the table does. Add a second and third player and the caster's aim blurs into probability, because now the game is picking among the permanents you nominated rather than executing your one pick. That is the balancing weight: a 5/4 with trample for five that fired a targeted removal spell on entry and again on death would be sharply undercosted with more targets on the board, so the multi-opponent case launders precision into a coin toss across the pod. The enter-and-die structure is the part worth building around, since the second detonation means a chump block or a sacrifice does not blank the card so much as reload it, and a demon dying on your terms often does more work than the body ever will. Read across a full table and you have two cards wearing one type line: surgical when there is a single throat to cut, a scattergun when there are three.
