Most Equipment sits inert until you pay to strap it on, which is why so few pieces ever justify the mana outside dedicated aggro shells. This one solves the problem by doing something the turn it lands: it kills or damages a creature on entry, so the two mana buys removal whether or not the equip cost ever gets paid. That front-loading is the reason the design works, but the rev counters are where it turns into a long-game engine. The trigger fires whenever one or more creatures die, so it reads the board's attrition rather than counting individual corpses: a sweeper that wipes six bodies stacks a single counter, and so does a lone trade in combat. What it tracks is the number of times the game has gotten bloody, not the size of the pile. The counters never come off, so every fresh wave of death ratchets the eventual buff permanently upward, and the disconnect between cost and reward is where the design bites: the equip is a flat three no matter how large the +X/+0 has grown. In a grindy stall where creatures keep trading, the weapon sharpens on its own until suiting up ends the game in a swing. It punishes the war of attrition that usually rewards the more controlling deck, turning every board wipe into fuel for the thing that outlives it.
