Cataclysmic Prospecting

SorceryX generic manaRed manaRed mana

Red rarely gets a scaling board wipe, and the ones it does get come freighted with a downside: everything dies, red's own creatures included. This one folds the compensation directly into the casting cost. The X sizes the sweep the way any red X-spell does, but the second clause keys off what kind of mana pays for it, not how much: every point that came from a Desert leaves behind a tapped Treasure. So the fuller your Desert base, the more the wipe pays you back, converting a symmetrical blowout into a resource swing you can bank against the next threat. The Treasures arrive tapped, which is what stops the sweep from being mana-neutral the moment it resolves: you reset the board, but the refund waits until you untap. It is a deliberate reward for a manabase most red decks would never assemble, and that friction is the whole point. The design asks you to warp your lands toward a subtheme and hands you a wrath that rebuilds you afterward as the payoff. Without Deserts it is a plain, slightly overcosted red sweeper; with a dozen of them it becomes something red has almost never had, a mass removal spell that ramps.
