Captain of Umbar

Creature — Human Pirate2 generic manaBlue mana

Looting on a stick, priced to be repeated rather than spent. The activation is the whole proposition: for one mana and a tap, you convert a dead card into a fresh look and stock a graveyard at the same time, one activation per turn cycle. That last clause is the balancing weight. Because it needs a mana and the tap, it cannot dig you out of trouble in a single burst the way a one-shot rummage does; it wants time, and it pays proportionally to how long you protect a fragile 2/3 body. The design lineage runs through the long history of repeatable card filtering on creatures, from Merfolk Looter forward, where the filtering itself has always mattered less than the discard half: for graveyard decks, an engine that reliably feeds the yard while never suffering card disadvantage is quietly more valuable than the loot it advertises. A Pirate that can grind is the kind of card that rewards a deck built to abuse what it discards rather than one that just wants to smooth its draws.
