Regrowth cost two mana and returned one card the moment it was printed; this design keeps the price and bolts a payoff structure on top that flips it from a modest recursion spell into a full battlefield rebuild. The base mode is unglamorous: two green mana, one permanent card back from the yard, the spell exiling itself so it cannot be looped. The descend clause is where the ceiling lives. Hit eight or more permanent cards in the graveyard and the on-cast trigger copies the spell twice, so a single casting resolves as three separate returns, each free to pick its own target. That timing matters: the copies are created when you cast, on the stack, before the original resolves, which means all three fire even if something answers the original later. The threshold is the honest cost of the effect. Eight permanent cards is not a passive number; it presumes a graveyard filled on purpose (self-mill, sacrifice loops, cheap fetch-and-discard) rather than one stumbled into. Get there and the reward is asymmetric, pulling back a land, a creature, and a planeswalker in the same green mana a lesser deck spends to retrieve one card. This is descend used as a graveyard-count gate rather than a delve-style resource sink: you never exile the cards to pay, you only need them present, so the graveyard stays intact for whatever engine wanted it full in the first place.
