Body of Research
The rare payoff that reads your deck's remaining cards as raw material rather than a hidden resource, then dumps the whole count onto a single body. Simic has always played the long game, but most of its finishers scale with permanents you have already committed to the board; this one scales with the library itself, a number that starts enormous and only shrinks. Cast it early and the Fractal arrives as a monster with dozens of counters, its size a direct readout of how many draws you have not yet taken. That is the tension the card runs on: the fewer cards left, the smaller it gets, so the reward for casting it late is the same discipline that makes it dangerous to hold. The 0/0 base means the token dies to a state-based check the moment those counters come off, which turns it into a lightning rod for a single removal spell or bounce; protecting it, doubling it, or granting trample is where the deckbuilding conversation begins. The triple-green, triple-blue cost is a deliberate gate, demanding a manabase fully committed to both halves of the guild before the payoff comes online. The card trades reliability for a ceiling: a haymaker whose power is legible to both players the instant it resolves, which is exactly what makes the counterplay a real decision rather than a formality.
