Auspicious Arrival

Instant1 generic manaWhite mana

A combat trick with a consolation prize built in, provided the combat happens. The math is familiar white deckbuilding: a +2/+2 pump is normally a pure tempo bet, spent on one moment of combat and worth nothing if the opponent declines the block. Stapling Investigate to the pump hedges that bet, but the hedge has a seam worth understanding. Because the creature is the spell's only target, an opponent who kills it in response fizzles the whole thing: no pump, no Clue, no card. The payoff arrives only when the spell resolves. What that resolution guarantees is the reassurance the effect needs: when the block goes the wrong way or your creature simply outsizes the fight, you still bank a Clue, turning a wasted combat trick into deferred card advantage you cash on your own schedule. The design lineage runs through white's long tradition of small tricks that soften their own downside, from cantripping pumps to cyclers; here the softener is an artifact rather than a stapled draw, which means the card advantage is delayed and mana-hungry but bankable at instant speed once the board goes quiet. The spell asks nothing of your deck beyond a creature worth pumping, which is why it reads as filler until you account for how rarely a resolved copy leaves you empty-handed.
