Anaba Shaman

Creature — Minotaur Shaman3 generic manaRed mana

The pinger template was born in blue, where Prodigal Sorcerer turned the slow drip of one point per turn into a control fixture: tap, ping an X/1, repeat until the board emptied. This red Minotaur is one of the early attempts to move that engine into the color where pointed direct damage actually belongs. The activated ability does all the work, a recurring point of damage for a single red mana and a tap, mopping up small creatures turn after turn or chipping at a life total without ever committing to combat. The friction lives in the body. A 2/2 for 3 generic manaRed mana that does nothing the turn it lands is a steep entry fee for an ability that pays out one point at a time, and that math explains why the card never earned a real home. A red deck built to pressure life totals fast rarely wants to hold a vanilla-sized creature back and tap it for a single point each turn, even when the recurring burn is mechanically aligned with red's instincts. The interest is historical: this is the pinger caught mid-migration, leaving the color that pioneered it and arriving in the color that would eventually own repeatable direct damage, but not yet wearing a rate that justified the slot.
