The disruption a Sphinx like this offers is total knowledge: as it enters, every opponent's hand turns face-up, and you lock one card out of their plan by name. The naming clause is doing the heavy lifting, and it reaches further than the single revealed copy suggests, because it names a card, not the specific copy in hand. Choose their finisher and the copies still in the library are dead too; clip the best card off a known hand and you reshape the next several turns before they draw a fresh one. The cost is a fragile contract. The lock only persists while the creature survives, so the 5/5 flier becomes the most valuable thing your opponents can kill, and the reveal that powered your naming has already shown you which of those answers they were holding. That is the bind built into the design: you commit to casting and resolving the spell before you see anything, since the reveal is a replacement effect tied to its arrival, not a trigger you get to read off first. You pay the seven mana, then learn whether the body will stick. As a hatebear stretched to the heavy end of the curve, it occupies a strange slot: too slow to tax a combo deck before it goes off, too information-rich to ignore in a grind where naming the right card buys real tempo.
