Spell copying has always lived on the spell itself: Fork, Twincast, the storm count of a Grapeshot, the double-cast riders on cards like Increasing Vengeance. This takes that payoff and builds it into a permanent that pays itself off over time. The engine charges passively, one counter per instant or sorcery, capped at three so it never overfills; once the counters are stocked, an activated ability spends all three to arm a copy for the next spell you cast that turn. The counters persist, which is the whole point: the three charging spells can be spread across as many turns as you need, so a slower deck reaches the threshold eventually rather than in a single explosive turn. That patient accrual is what keeps a permanent-based copy effect from spiraling. It wants a deck saturated with cheap cantrips and burn to charge quickly, and it rewards holding your best spell until the counters are ready and the copy can duplicate something worth duplicating. Choosing new targets on the copy is the flexible half, letting one removal spell split across two threats or a draw spell send its second resolution somewhere useful. The trade against the one-shot copy spells that came before is legible: you give up the immediacy of casting Twincast the moment you need it, and in exchange you get a source that keeps coming back, turn after turn, as long as the artifact survives.
