Zulaport Enforcer

Creature — Human WarriorBlack mana

The mana sink here points the wrong way for an aggressive one-drop. A 1/1 that wants to attack early ends up a poor place to dump four mana per activation, since each level-up runs only at sorcery speed and three levels (twelve mana spread across turns) is the price to reach the 5/5. The interesting clause is the evasion attached at the top end: once leveled to 3 or higher, this body can only be blocked by black creatures, which in most non-mirror games means it cannot be blocked at all. That ties the payoff to the slowest, most expensive part of the engine rather than the cheap aggressive front, which is the friction the design never quite resolves: you pay the most mana to unlock the evasion that aggressive decks most want early, and by the time you have leveled it the game has usually moved past the window where a 5/5 mostly-unblockable warrior is the swing piece you needed. As a Level Up creature it sits among the more honest examples of the mechanic's central problem: the floor is too low and the activation too slow to make the ceiling matter on the turns it would.
