Zhentarim Bandit

Creature — Halfling Rogue1 generic manaBlack mana

The trigger fires on the declaration of attackers, not on damage, which means the Treasure is banked the moment you commit to the swing: block it, chump it, kill the 2/1 in combat, and the mana still lands. That timing quietly insulates the reward from the fragility of the body. What you're paying with is life, black's oldest currency, and what you're buying is the resource black produces worst: mana of any color. Each attack is an optional point-for-Treasure exchange you meter yourself, throttling it off when your life total is the thing you can least spare and switching it back on when a stuck hand needs the fixing more than it needs the cushion. The payoff persists as an artifact you can crack later for color, feed to a sacrifice engine, or hold as fuel for anything that counts Treasures. That deferred, board-based reward is what gives an otherwise modest aggressive drop a home in decks built around Treasure, sacrifice, and ramp: the swing isn't the point, the token it launders into is.
