Mill has always fought the same reputation: an archetype that measures progress in cards it can never quite finish, forever told to convert into a kill condition or step aside. The design lever here reverses the polarity. The activated ability points mill outward at any player, but the payoff is Hive Mind, which hands you a 1/1 black Horror whenever a player mills one or more creature cards, regardless of whose mill triggered it or whose deck lost the cards. Note the trigger shape: it fires once per mill event, not once per creature milled, so the engine rewards wide, repeated mill rather than one enormous dump into the yard. A strategy that used to generate nothing but incremental self-harm suddenly generates a growing board, and the more mill events resolve, the more the engine compounds. That is why this reads as a payoff rather than an enabler: the tokens are the win, and milling is the fuel line feeding them. The modest frame keeps the card off the radar; token production is what has to be answered, and because Hive Mind cares about any player's mill on any turn, the board accrues off effects you do not even control. Choose a Background lets the card anchor the top of a two-commander pairing, so the shell can bolt on a second identity (a token doubler, a sacrifice outlet, an aristocrats engine) without abandoning blue. This is the point where mill stopped asking to be a finisher and started functioning as a self-sustaining creature engine that happens to run on libraries.
