Most schemes hand the arch-villain a flat effect that plays the same every game; this one reaches into the deck's own construction for its number, scaling its sweep to your commander's mana value. The design wager is that the archenemy is playing the biggest, gaudiest legendary creature at the table. Point it behind a five- or six-drop general and it clears most token swarms and mana dorks in a single flick; point it behind a low-cost commander or a two-mana partner and the sweep barely singes anything. That coupling is the whole point: it rewards the oversized, expensive-general fantasy without printing a fixed "deal five damage" that would be identical regardless of who sits in the command zone. Note that the number tracks a commander's printed mana value, not the mana you actually paid, so cheating an eight-drop into play early loses none of the punch. The damage skips your opponents' own commanders, which keeps the effect honest as an asymmetric sweeper rather than a full reset, leaving their strongest single threats standing while the chaff burns. Built to punish the go-wide decks that would otherwise mob the villain before the fun begins, it scales by a number the archenemy fixes at deckbuilding time rather than one the game hands out at random.
