Yavimaya Wurm

Creature — Wurm4 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

Six power and trample for six mana, stapled to a four-toughness body that dies to almost any burn spell of its era and trades down into combat far more readily than a finisher should. That fragility is the whole balancing act: trample solves the chump-blocker problem (excess damage spills over to the player regardless), but four toughness puts the Wurm in the awkward middle, too easy to kill to attack into open mana and too expensive to deploy early. This is the green vanilla-plus beater of its era, the kind of big-bodied creature that filled out a curve when efficient finishers were scarce and trample was still treated as a premium rider rather than an assumed one. The design dates itself: later green sixes give you more toughness, an enters-the-battlefield effect, or evasion that closes games faster, and the gap between this and them is a clean measure of how much green's fatties have improved. What the Wurm does well is signpost the floor. When a six-mana green creature does nothing but swing for six and trample over, the low toughness is doing the balancing work the rest of the card refuses to, and four is low enough that the rate never felt unfair even in a format hungry for ramp payoffs.
