Yavimaya Kavu

The whole point of this Kavu is that it reads the board rather than the card: power tallies every red creature in play, toughness tallies every green one, and because it counts as both colors itself, it can never fall below a 1/1 while never reaching anything larger on an empty table. The split between the two halves is what makes it strange to build around. Surround it with red aggressors and it becomes a wide attacker with negligible toughness, the kind of body a single point of damage erases mid-combat. Surround it with a green swarm and it becomes an immovable wall with no offense to speak of. Only a board genuinely committed to both colors at once stretches it in both directions, rewarding the two-color density the gold-card era was built to encourage. The fragility is structural: all of this scaling lives on the rest of the battlefield, not on the card, so removing the creatures it counts shrinks it faster than removing the Kavu itself. Pick off your opponent's blockers or trade away your own swarm and the numbers slide out from under it; reduce the board to nothing and it sits there as a 1/1, its ceiling and floor both written by everyone else's team. It is a payoff that asks you to win the development war first and then collects on having done so.
