A 2/7 treefolk is a wall first: five mana to plant something that stonewalls almost any single attacker and shrugs off small burn. The activated ability then inverts that posture in the wrong direction. Each green you pour in trades two toughness for one power, so the same body that blocks all day can punch for serious damage, though only until end of turn, when the boost fades and it resets. The math is brutal and deliberate: that 7 toughness reads like a generous war chest, but it only buys three full activations before the creature falls over, and pushing past three leaves it dead to almost anything. This is a defensive shell with a hidden, repeatable offensive gear, balanced by the fact that pulling the lever undoes the thing the card was good at. The toughness reduction also opens a small window of self-sacrifice utility: with enough mana, the treefolk can ping itself into the graveyard, which often matters more than the attack damage ever will. As green design it captures an early-era idea of what a fixed body could cost and what tension a single activated ability could carry: not a value engine, not a tempo play, but a creature asked to choose between guarding and swinging, and never both for long. The whole card lives inside that one decision, which is more than most commons of its day ever asked of you.
