Wrench Mind

SorceryBlack manaBlack mana

Hymn to Tourach asked nothing of its caster: two black mana, two random cards torn from the opponent, no questions. This is the artifact-set descendant of that effect, and the change lives entirely in who gets to decide. The discard becomes a choice handed to the target, but a rigged one: pitch a single artifact card and keep the rest of the hand intact, or surrender two cards of your own choosing. The trick is that "two cards you choose" is a far better deal for the discarder than two random cards, so the spell behaves differently depending on what the opponent is holding, and the two outcomes pull in opposite directions. Against a hand with no artifacts, it resolves as a strict two-for-one for a mana less than the classic three-mana double-discard rate, with the caveat that the opponent ditches their two least-wanted cards rather than two at random. Against an artifact-heavy hand, the one-card mode becomes the likely result, and the spell can strip a specific artifact from the opponent's grip before it ever hits the battlefield, though the opponent still picks which one to lose. That second mode is the design's reason to exist: a flexible hand-attack spell that doubles as proactive pressure on artifacts still sitting in hand. The card's bite scales with how much the room cares about artifacts, which is precisely the axis it was built around.
