Wooded Bastion

Land

The defining trick of the filter-land cycle is conversion: feed it one colored pip and it hands back two, in whichever combination of those two colors the curve demands. That is what no shockland or true dual can do. A standard dual offers a choice between one of two colors; this one launders a single G or W into WW, GG, or GW, smoothing the double-pip costs that punish a stumble. The catch is the entry fee written into the hybrid activation. You have to spend colored mana to get colored mana back, so the land makes nothing from nothing: drop it as your first source and it produces a lone colorless, useless to a one-drop that wants a color. The whole balancing act lives in that requirement. The filter land is at its best stacked alongside other sources, where its job is fixing the shape of your mana rather than the quantity. It is the structural inverse of the painlands, which give you color flexibility immediately and bill you in life on each tap; here the cost is paid in setup, not in life, and a deck that is already producing colored mana never feels it. The design rewards a manabase that has surplus of one color and a need for two pips of either, and politely declines to help one that is short on color in the first place.
