Woodborn Behemoth

Creature — Elemental3 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

The threshold of eight lands is the whole pitch, and it tells you exactly what kind of deck this body wants to live in. A 4/4 for five mana is a fair midrange creature; cross the count and it becomes an 8/8 trampler that outclasses nearly anything green expects to face across the table, closing games fast enough that a chump blocker no longer buys a full turn. The gap between those two states is the design: a ramp deck that floods the board with lands flips a below-rate beater into a genuine threat. Note the wording, because the distinction matters: the check counts lands, not mana sources, so a fistful of mana dorks or rocks does nothing to trip it. It wants permanents in play that are actually lands. And because the buff is a static condition rather than a one-time enters-the-battlefield trigger, it tracks the board live: stumble on land drops, or watch your manabase get stripped, and it deflates back to a vanilla 4/4. That is the cost of building around it. Eight is a steep bar, steep enough that the payoff only arrives in decks already committed to grinding out extra land drops, the same families that reach for effects like Khalni Heart Expedition to hit the count ahead of schedule. It is a payoff card wearing the costume of a midrange creature, and the line between those two readings is drawn at exactly eight lands.
