Enter three other Swamps deep, and this land shrugs off its tapped clause and hands back one dead creature: that inversion is the whole balancing act, and it runs against the grain of when you actually want the effect. Early, when an untapped land pays off most, your Swamp count is not there yet and this arrives as inert fixing; late, when you have both the board and a fallen creature worth wanting, it enters untapped and reclaims one at no cost beyond having leaned your manabase black. It is the cottage-cycle template pointed at black recursion, offering a single free instance of the thing the color usually pays life or cards to do, contingent only on playing your lands on curve. Two limits keep it honest. The trigger fires once, on entry, so this is a one-shot rebuy rather than an engine you replay; and it returns the creature to the top of your deck, not your hand, so you still owe a draw to cash it in. That toll is easy to underprice: you are spending your next draw step in advance, which is fine when the target is a bomb and dead weight when the recovered creature is a cheap body you would have redrawn anyway. This is fixing that occasionally does a second job, not a value piece to build around, and the pull between Swamp density and color spread is the price of that occasional second job.
