A green answer to flying that punishes the attack step rather than the board. Green is Magic's primary anti-air color, but it usually pays for the privilege with permanence: Plummet and its kin shoot a flier out of the sky once, Hurricane sweeps the whole board symmetrically. This takes a different tack. The narrow targeting (attacking creatures only) is what stops it from being a clean sweep; it does nothing to opposing fliers on your own turn, nothing to a flier sitting back on defense, and nothing until the opponent commits to combat. What it does instead is convert an alpha strike in the air into a blowout: the -2/-2 kills the smaller weenies outright, and the survivors fall to the ground, where stripping flying lets your own grounded creatures block them. The catch is timing. To pull off the block, you have to cast this during the declare attackers step, before blockers are declared; fire it after blocks are locked in and losing flying changes nothing about who is already blocking whom. The cost of that combat trick is the read. You hold up three mana and wait, and a patient opponent who never swings in the air leaves the card stranded in hand. It is a green instant aimed squarely at the one phase where fliers matter most, trading the certainty of a kill spell for a tempo swing that can win a race outright.
