Whispers of the Muse

InstantBlue mana

For a single blue mana, this is a fair cantrip that asks nothing and replaces itself: a slight tempo loss, since you spend mana to draw without touching the board, but cheap enough that no permission deck has ever flinched at the cost. Pay the buyback, though, and the same spell stops emptying. It returns to hand as it resolves, ready to recast next turn, a draw-a-card loop that never runs dry. That dual identity is the whole point, and the gap between the two prices is what balances it. The front half slots into any blue deck without strain; the back half is a steep mana sink, so the engine only switches on once a long game has left you with surplus untapped lands and nothing more urgent to spend them on. By that point, the card has quietly become the reason a control deck can afford to run lean on win conditions: it draws toward whatever finish the deck eventually wants instead of being that finish itself, burying an opponent under raw card flow one turn at a time. Where older card-advantage engines committed a permanent to the board and announced their intent, this one hides in a single floating blue mana and only reveals what it is when the game has slowed to the pace where drawing one card a turn decides things.
