Well of Discovery

Artifact6 generic mana

The whole game trains you to leave mana up: hold a blocker, bait a removal spell into a trick, keep an instant live through the opponent's turn. This artifact inverts that instinct completely. The condition (no untapped lands at your end step) pays you for the one board state every other deck treats as a liability, the empty one, where you have spent everything and held nothing back. It rewards the player who tapped out: heavy-curve development, sorcery-speed plays, mana that drains itself. The trouble is what the timing demands. The check happens at your end step, so to collect you have to have your lands tapped out going into the opponent's turn, walking into their attack and their spells with far less mana for instants and fewer answers in reserve. The payoff and the exposure are the same posture; you cannot collect the draw without first surrendering the right to react. That is the trade it asks you to make on purpose, every turn, and it is the reason the engine never found a real home: a draw spell that costs you your interaction is a hard thing to want. Built around a back-to-front cost structure, it reads less like a card meant to win games and more like a thesis statement about an era that wanted players to feel the pull of total commitment, to find reward in the empty board where weakness is supposed to live.
