Wave of Indifference

SorceryX generic manaRed mana

Falter effects rarely scale, and the X here is what separates this from its cousins. Where Falter itself blanks every blocker for a turn, this lets you pay for exactly the number of removed defenders you need, leaving the rest of your mana to make the attack lethal in the first place. There is real design tension underneath: a Falter that consumes all your mana clears the path but leaves nothing to swing with, so the scalable version asks the attacking player to do the arithmetic of how many bodies actually stand between the team and the opponent's life total. The brittleness comes from the targeting clause. Because it strips blocking from specific creatures rather than granting your own attackers evasion, a single untapped flier or an instant-speed blink can open a gap you never paid to close; precise, but easy to misjudge. It belongs to the line of go-wide red finishers meant to turn a clogged board into one decisive alpha strike, a spell you hold until the math closes the game rather than one you cast on curve. This kind of tunable blocker-stripper rewards committing bodies to the board without overextending into a single wrath, the payoff for a swarm strategy that wants to push damage through rather than break a stall by trading.
