Watcher Sliver
Toughness anthems are the unglamorous half of the Sliver lord cabinet, and they hand the whole hive a defensive backbone that the aggressive members never bother to provide. The +0/+2 broadcast here does nothing for the clock, so the builds that want Muscle Sliver or Sinew Sliver tend to leave it home. Where it earns the slot is survival math: a +0/+2 floor turns every one-toughness Sliver into something that shrugs off the small burn and ping effects that otherwise unravel a tribal board, and because it stacks with itself, a second copy means the team is eating four extra toughness apiece. The body it rides on, a 2/2 for , is a price you pay for the anthem rather than a creature you cast for value, and the design knows it: a Sliver lord is only as good as the number of Slivers already in play, so this is deliberately a multiplier, not a standalone threat. That is the structural reason toughness lords have always been the safety valve of the tribe rather than its engine. The hive can race without this card; it grinds out long, attrition-heavy games much better with it.
