War's Toll

Two punitive locks stacked into one enchantment, both aimed entirely at the opponent and at the seams of how they operate rather than at their board directly. The mana clause is the more vicious half: tap a single land for mana and every land that player controls taps with it. It does not strictly freeze a phase, since an opponent can respond by floating all their mana before the tap resolves; what it kills is the option to keep land back for later. No leaving up an instant for the following turn, no spreading mana across phases. Each cycle becomes a question of when to commit, not whether to hold. The combat clause works the same logic from the opposite end: commit one creature to an attack and the rest are dragged in if able, turning a probing strike into a forced all-in that walks into open blockers and strips away the option to hold defenders in reserve. Both halves share a design philosophy from an era fond of this kind of asymmetric tax (Price of Glory and Stranglehold occupy adjacent territory): the enchantment never stops the opponent from acting, it just strips the freedom around each action. Crucially, none of it touches the controller, who taps lands and chooses attackers under no such constraint. That clean one-sidedness is the design's purpose; the effect is brutal when paired with a board pressing an opponent who can no longer manage it, and inert with nothing to press.
