Warren-Scourge Elf

Creature — Elf Warrior1 generic manaGreen mana

Protection from a single creature type, stapled to a 1/1 body, is one of the narrowest design slots Magic has: the keyword earns its keep only when the metagame leans hard on that one tribe. This is the elf-and-goblin rivalry rendered as a keyword. Elves and Goblins were built as opposed tribal aggro decks in the same block, and a green two-drop that goblins cannot block, burn, or trade into is a piece of asymmetric tribal warfare rather than a generically good creature. Protection from Goblins means it slips past goblin blockers, shrugs off goblin combat tricks, and ignores the small-creature damage that goblin decks lean on. The cost of all that specificity is total: the keyword does nothing the moment goblins leave the table, leaving a plain 1/1 that asks two mana for the privilege. That is the bargain the card was printed to make. It is hate built into a creature, a piece of tribal-mirror technology whose value is entirely a function of how many goblins it expects to face, and a clean artifact of an early-era impulse to design two tribes at each other's throats and arm each side with tools aimed squarely at the other.
