Battalion's whole design problem is rewarding the wide attack without making the individual cards unplayable when the board is thin, and this is the most honest answer the keyword produced: a 2/3 body that holds the ground floor of a curve on its own, then spikes to a 4/3 the moment two other attackers join the swing. The toughness is where the design earns its margin. Three power for three mana on an attacker is a familiar rate, but a 2/3 survives the early trades that a 3/2 loses, so the card pulls its weight blocking and racing before the trigger ever fires. The conditional power bump is pure upside layered on a body that was already paying rent. Battalion as a mechanic always lived or died on whether its members were stranded when you couldn't go three-wide, and the flimsier members of this kind tend to fail that test by stapling the keyword to a fragile attacker. This one passes by spending its stats on durability rather than initial reach, which is the less flashy and more correct way to build a go-wide payoff that has to function in the games where the board never gets wide at all.
