Ward Sliver

Protection is the oldest get-out-of-jail keyword in the game, and the Sliver tribe's signature move was that one creature could hand a shared static effect to every Sliver on the battlefield. The effect is a replacement, not a trigger: as it enters, you lock in a color, and from that moment every Sliver in play (yours, this 2/2, and your opponent's too, since the oracle text reads "all Slivers" without ownership restriction) carries protection from it. That symmetry is the wrinkle these early tribal designs tend to carry; in a mirror or against another Sliver pilot, your declaration arms their board as readily as your own. The reach is what makes the keyword dangerous, because protection bundles four kinds of immunity at once (damage prevention, can't-be-blocked, can't-be-targeted, can't-be-enchanted-or-equipped), so a well-chosen color blunts much of an opponent's plan rather than a single threat. Note the boundary: protection only touches permanents on the battlefield and players, so it does nothing against a counterspell aimed at a Sliver on the stack, and the choice is permanent once made, answering the board in front of you with no flex afterward. Multiple copies can blanket multiple colors, but each declaration is fixed. It belongs to the design tradition of making each Sliver a walking aura for the swarm: individually plain bodies, collectively a tuned machine, with protection the most disruptive of the keywords the tribe was ever allowed to pool.
